Man left in hospital after motorbike crash in Southend

A MAN was left with serious injuries following a crash in Southend.

The 48 year-old, from Shoebury, is being treated for injuries to both his legs after he fell off his motorbike in Eastern Avenue just before 2pm on Saturday.

The air ambulance was called and landed on the nearby Jones Memorial Recreation Ground, but was not needed.

A land ambulance took the man to Southend Hospital.

It is believed that the rider was thrown from his motorbike after it struck the kerb close to the junction with Sutton Road.

Officers believe that no other vehicles were involved in the crash, but are appealing for witnesses to conatact them.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.

first sentence needs 'has been' inserted between 'man' and 'hospitalised' in order to make it a coherent sentence, in my opinion.

It's yet another example of poor editing/proofreading
.

That said, I hope the man recover quickly from his injuries.

Drove past not long after accident had happened, with the inevitable traffic build up. Was not aware that Sutton road has been moved. Accident was actually in Eastern Avenue, near Sutton road. Wishing all injured a speedy recovery.

He may well have been a decent biker - sadly there are very few of them.

Most of them think they are above the law , and can weave in and out of traffic often creating a third lane.

It is always nice to see a biker riding in accordance with the law, sadly this is a rare sighting.

Bikers are allowed to filter through traffic in this country, and nothing you just mentioned is specifically illegal. Drivers like you who don't know the law are becoming a bit of a problem.

Filtering yes, but not undertaking.

If the speed of the traffic is above say 20mph, then you can't really call it filtering.

Sadly many bikers think that undertaking at 50mph plus is acceptable.

That's a stupid thing to do. You could cause them to swerve or wobble into the path of following traffic.

Crap drivers are becoming a bit of a nuisance. It seems that most have forgotten their highway code and now just sit in the outside lane.

I've lost count of how many I come across now that are sitting in the outside lane at 50-60mph. It actually quite funny seeing a queue in the outside lane, an empty middle lane, and trundling down the inside lane at 70mph past the queue. (Highway code wording is that it is ok to pass on the left if traffic in the other lane is queueing).

If I can do that in a van, why shouldn't a biker "undertake" at 50mph plus? Traffic must be queueing if they are in the 50-70mph range and still "undertaking".

Anyway, forget this argument. Hope the chap hospitalised is ok and recovers soon.

Riders who don't know the defination of 'filtering' are the main problem - as already alluded to, it doesn't mean undertaking, at any time!

Baiting on the Echo website should be an Olympic sport.

What if it wasn't an inconsiderate driver, and the biker was a World superbike champion - maybe a hedgehog walked in front of him, and being a good natured and thoughtful chap, he injured himself, risked his life, to save that hedgehog from being squished...

I think all hedgehogs should be banned from being near roads as a result. All they do is plod along, endangering considerate drivers.

I know some of you will blame drivers, bikers, cyclists, cars, saying they shouldn't be on the road, and maybe they should look out for the hedgehogs, but this is a serious problem.

Ban hedgehogs!
