Westcliff monster burger challenge
12:00pm Thursday 14th March 2013 in Local News
Frances and Paul Crane with Lunch in a Bag's gutbusting burger.
IT STANDS two-foot tall and contains 3lbs of meat, but so far no-one has managed to eat it all.
The supersized burger, named the Deep Throat Challenge, is being sold at Lunch in a Bag in Fairfax Drive, Westcliff.
It consists of six beef patties and a choice of five extra toppings - including baked beans, fish fingers and peanut butter. And if you eat it all, along with a side salad and chips, in just 30 minutes you get the £20 burger for free.
Lunch in a Bag’s manager Paul Crane said: “We were inspired to do something like this by the Man vs Food TV show. People go bananas for our burgers. People were saying that they wished we done a bigger burger, so I gave it some thought and came up with this.
“No one has completed the challenge yet. We did have one guy though complete it after two days. He took some of it home and kept in his fridge.”
For his next challenge, Mr Crane wants to serve up a really big breakfast. He said: “Twelve sausages, twelve eggs, twelve slices of bacon. A real, real monster. I just need to find a plate big enough first!”

I've seen the show a fair few times and it's quite entertaining. I think though, that the best food challenges that guy takes on are ones that could be shared by a group or eaten by one, ie 1 single massive 3lb burger in a massive bun. That way a group of friends or family could enjoy the novelty of sharing a massive pizza/burger/omelett
e/whatever. That way the 'challenge' element is secondary and they would probably sell a lot more of them!
Good luck to them.

But being honest, the burger just doesn't even look nice, even if I was a fatty I wouldn't touch it.
That said, if you can get a regular flow of obese people looking for a excuse to eat even more than usual, you could be onto something. Good Luck.

It may be edible as claimed but It's certainly not clever or funny.

Hmm, I realised I'd invited a retort along those lines shortly after hitting submit.
But unlike the burger, I'm willing to swallow it.

I guarantee the only people that will buy/eat this crap will be jobless dole-scroungers.
I hope it bursts their intestines.

Who, who in their right mind, would be so wasteful as to serve a burger that no one can reasonably be expected to eat?
And who would be ignorant enough to eat it and do themselves serious harm?
This is irresponsible and distasteful.

What is this decadent foolishness? This over-indulgence?

We order from here when we can. They serve good quality burgers that aren't swimming in grease. They too can accommodate for the salad eaters! Hope the cafe works out for you guys!

How can anyone try to eat such a monstrosity and NOT feel a creeping sense of shame at their own gluttony?
As I said, it is irresponsible and distasteful.
