Updated: Woman charged after firearms false alarm in Canvey

A WOMAN has been charged with wasting police time following reports that a man was seen with a firearm in Canvey.

Armed police swooped on a house in Link Road at about 5.20pm on Friday.

Officers entered the house and used a stun grenade - a device which makes a loud bang to disorientate an offender. No firearms were fired.

The property was searched but it was empty.

A police spokesman confirmed that following further enquiries, a 21 year old Canvey woman was arrested and later charged with wasting police time by making a false report.

She has been bailed to appear at Southend Magistrates' Court on April 8.

Interesting, it was only last week that a large number of twitter / facebook users from Canvey were claiming to have been hunted by a rapist, after one girl claimed a man tried to attack her.

Just seen armed police storm house in Link Road after shot was heard from inside house. Police fired what sounded like around 10 shots on entering. Don't think house as vacant as at least 1 person seen inside by onlookers

This was my house and i can assure you NO shots were fired by Police and noone was at home at the time.It was as the police have said A HOAX CALL

Hope you're not too stressed. I imagine it's quite a shock to be rudely interrupted by mistake!

I understand the police following such calls up, but still not fun for innocent parties!
