Teenager jumped in front of train after Facebook rumours

Echo: Teenager jumped in front of train over Facebook rumours Teenager jumped in front of train over Facebook rumours

A “POPULAR and genuinely happy” 16-year-old sprinted in front of a train after Facebook comments were made about his relationship with a girl.

Ryan French, of Station Road, Rayleigh, died after being hit by the train on the Southend Victoria to London Liverpool Street line near Ferndale Road, off Hambro Hill on September 18 last year.

Coroner Yvonne Blake gave a narrative verdict on the “sad” death, saying he had been struck by the train and the driver couldn’t stop in time.

The inquest at Southend Magistrates’ Court heard he had been worried about rumours that had been circulating about him and a girl on social media sites.

He had also been close to his grandparents, and his grandfather passed away two months before he died.

Did the young lad leave a note saying he was upset about Facebook? If not, is this all guesswork? Facebook has got me into trouble before. I refuse to join it again. People can be very cruel and insensitive. Sorry you left us Ryan. RIP.

I'm no fan of facebook, but seriously ? How do they filter out a few comments about a teenage relationship, there must be millions of them ! That said i obviously don't know what the comments were. This is a sad consequence of the multi media society we now live in and the youngs obsession with it. I suspect the comments were no different to things said at school all the time, but the problem with 'social networking' is that they become permanent, widespread, and therefore hugely embarrasing, sometimes with tragic consequences.....

More Facebook evil. The sooner F@rcebook and Tw@tter are shut down the better.

If they cannot police these sites properly they need ditching. I had three years of harassment on facebook, with vile rumours started about me, hacking and cloning my page and putting disgusting rumours around about me.

What a shame then, for these idiots, that I am just carrying on as normal. However, this is a schoolboy at a sensitive age. I hope all those responsible for his death, including Mark Zuckerberg and his team, rot in hell.

Social networking has been responsible for the ruination of too many lives and for too many break ups, divorces, fights, hatemongering and deaths.

I know the trouble of the relationship you had with that girl, and I know it wasn't easy, you stayed strong for a while but it all got too you in the end, yet you're gone and she's still bragging about it all and still making up stories and impossible they are, she's being quite inconsiderate.

But you'll never get forgotten.

Another sad story about a young lad being driven to this sort of end because of what may have been peer pressure. If it is true what is said on the post just above mine then surely someone involved with these young people can follow through and see why things got this bad without apparrent intervention.

Rip fella, and all sympathy to all his relatives and friends.
