Man dies after collapsing in Thorpe Bay
A MAN has died after he collapsed in a Thorpe Bay street.
Police, paramedics and the air ambulance were scrambled to Maplin Way at about 11am today after reports the man, in his eighties, had been taken ill.
The Essex and Herts Air Ambulance landed on a patch of land nearby.
Neighbours rushed to his side and tried in vain to save him.
A police spokesman said: “A police investigation is under way to establish the circumstances around the death of a man in Shoebury.
“Officers were contacted by the ambulance service at 11am today following reports a man was ill at the junction of Maplin Way and Delaware Road in Shoebury.
“Officers arrived and found a local man in his 80s with a head injury.
“He was being treated by paramedics but then died a short while later at the scene.
“At this stage it is unknown why the man was ill so police have set up a cordon to establish the circumstances.”
Maplin Way was cordoned off between Delaware Road and Station Road until about 12.45pm while emergency services dealt with the incident.
