Video: Chris Evans backing the Fishwives Choir
5:50am Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in Local News
TV AND radio presenter Chris Evans has given his backing to the Southend-based Fishwives Choir.
Jane Dolby, who set up the choir to bring together spouses of men who work in one of Britain’s most dangerous industries, did a telephone interview with the Radio 2 DJ yesterday morning.
He also played their latest single, When the Boat Comes In, and encouraged his millions of listeners to go out and buy it to get it to number one.
Jane, whose husband, Colin, 47, died at sea when his trawler was caught in a freak storm off Southend in 2008, said: “He is really behind us, which is brilliant.
“He said he’ll push for us to get to number one so I hope that means he’ll keep playing our single. He was a very significant person to back the Military Wives and they have had such success. We’re pretty grateful.”
The choir has enjoyed strong media coverage in women’s magazines, and with performances on BBC TV.
Jane, a mum of four from Leigh, added: “It’s lovely, but we don’t make money from it. It all goes to the Fishermen’s Mission.”
