Castle Point community groups urged to claim cash
6:10am Thursday 17th October 2013 in Local News
COMMUNITY groups in Castle Point are being urged to make a bid for a share of £65,000 before the cash is lost.
The cash is still up for grabs for voluntary organisations across the borough through Essex County Council’s Community Initiatives Fund, since only four applicants have so far applied.
Each year, County Hall allocates money to every borough and district to provide grants for good causes, but so far, less than half of Castle Point’s £120,000 allocation has been claimed.
However, the council has agreed to extend the deadline for applications, so organisations can claim their share.
County councillor John Jowers, responsible for libraries, communities and planning, said: “The deadline for applications in Castle Point has now been extended until November 15.
“This is an excellent opportunity for community groups to apply for a cash boost for projects, or activities in the area.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity.”
The Community Initiatives Fund was set up to support projects which will create, secure or develop new community assets, enhance existing community facilities or develop initiatives to strengthen a community.
Groups can apply for as much as £20,000 with applications decided by a panel of judges.
Previously the funding has helped support projects such as the refurbishment of the Thundersley Brass Band’s washroom, the construction of a conservatory for Legacy XS, and the Essex Marching Corps Aspire project.
“There are a lot of worthwhile causes out there which I am sure could benefit from this money, but we need them to come forward and make a bid “Less than half of our money has been allocated.
Meanwhile all the other districts are having so many applications in excess of the £120,000 for their area they are having to choose between them.
“If we don’t spend it, we will lose it, so people need to come forward.”
Applications must be received by November 15, with a decision due on November 26.
