Man in mobility scooter assaulted in Southend street

A MAN on a mobility scooter was assaulted in a Southend street during an attempted robbery.
The 21-year old from Southend was returning home from Tesco Express on Southchurch Road via Hamstel Road when the incident happened on October 1.
He stopped in Hamstel Road and was approached by a man on his right hand side. The suspect remained slightly behind him, demanded money and then when the victim refused punched him a number of times on his forehead.
The suspect was holding a lighter in his right hand at the time he punched the victim.
Police believe that as the incident was happening around 8.30pm, a man came out of a van and shouted at the suspect. This caused them to run off towards Southchurch Road.
The suspect is described as being white, aged in his mid to late teens, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins tall with short blond hair. He was wearing a grey jumper.
A police spokeswoman said: "This was a despicable crime and the suspect should be ashamed of himself.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at Southend CID.”
The incident is being investigated by Dc Vicky Caine at Southend CID who witnesses can call on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
