Alert after stranger approaches boy, 14, outside school gates

PUPILS and parents have been warned to be on their guard after a schoolboy was approached by a stranger.
The 14-year-old was outside the gates of Hilltop Junior School, in Hlil Avenue, Wickford, when he was approached by the man.
The stranger asked the boy if he wanted to be taken to see his mother.
The boy declined and raised the alarm after the incident, which happened at 4.30pm on Monday.
Police have since written to parents of pupils at the school, and other schools in the town have also been warning parents and students to be on their guard.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police are investigating an allegation of suspicious activity nearaWickford school.
“Officers were contacted shortly after 4.30pm on Monday, October 14, following reports a boy had been approached by a stranger who had asked him if he wanted to be taken to his mother.
“Police have not received any other credible reports. High-visibility patrols will continue at schools throughout the district.”
Commenting on behalf of Hilltop Junior School, a spokeswoman for Essex County Council, said: “The county council received a report from a Wickford school that a stranger had approached a pupil near the school gates.
“This occurred at the end of the school day.
“This incident has been reported to the police and they are investigating. We have alerted local schools and requested their staff be extra vigilant at this time.”
If anyone has information or concerns in relation to the incident, or has seen other suspicious activity outside schools in or around Wickford, they should contact neighbourhood constable PC Asa Smith at Wickford police station on 101.
