Amy Childs to be guest of honour at fashion awards

THE glamour factor will be cranked up at the Eastgate Shopping Centre this weekend as the second annual Basildon Fashion Awards gala evening takes place.
TV favourite turned fashion designer Amy Childs will be the guest of honour at the Echo-backed event on Sunday evening, which will be the culmination of the competition.
The winner and two runners-up will be announced before an audience of VIPs and fashion lovers, who will gather at the centre for a champagne reception.
Despite only being in its second year, this year the Basildon Fashion Awards saw entries quadruple with more than 100 fashion hopefuls submitting their designs.
After much deliberation, the final three fashionistas were announced as Rosie Stowe, 15, from Shoeburyness High School, Katherine Pool, 17, from South Essex College, and Abbie Smith, 14, from Basildon, who entered independently rather than through her school or college.
Their designs will now be turned from sketches into actual garments by the talented fashion staff and students at South Essex College, with the finished designs forming part of a fashion show taking place at the awards.
Ian Clark, manager of the Eastgate Shopping Centre said: “Eastgate is delighted to be in partnership with the Echo and South Essex College for the Basildon Fashion Awards, and with Amy here as a celebrity judge. It’s fantastic for the town.
“We are, therefore, all looking forward to the evening to celebrate and identify the young fashion design talent that undoubtedly exists in this region.”
The winner will receive a specially- engraved trophy, £250 to spend on fashion at Eastgate and a week’s work experience with Debenhams.
The two runners-up will also take home a trophy, plus £100 to splash out on fashion, while six highly commended other young designers will each receive £50 to spend at Eastgate.
Former Towie star Amy, who has her own boutique at the Eastgate, will hand out trophies to the winners and will also show off some of her own designs on the catwalk.
The contest has been run by South Essex College, together with the Eastgate and with support from the Echo.
