Teenager banned from attending prom for being bad finally goes to the ball... her very own organised by mum
6:10am Tuesday 29th October 2013 in Local News
A GIRL who was banned from her school prom has finally gone to the ball.
Megan-Rose Thompson, 16, dressed in her finery to party with 100 friends and family at a glitzy charity bash which raised £3,100 for Little Havens Children’s Hospice, in Thundersley.
Her mum Silvia Thompson, 36, of Birch Green, Wickford, organised the event after seeing how devastated her daughter was at being banned by teachers at Wickford’s Bromfords School.
Megan-Rose was told she couldn’t go to the prom in July because she hadn’t earnt enough good behaviour points throughout the year.
Silvia claimed the reason other pupils could go was because they had forged the good behaviour stamps.
Hoping her headteacher would change his mind on the day, Megan-Rose still dressed up in her ball gown and went anyway. However, the £570 she spent was all in vain, as security staff escorted her off the grounds of Stock Brook Manor, in Billericay, when she tried to attend the prom.
But she got a second chance to show off her outfit at De Rougement Manor Hotel, in Brentwood, earlier this month where entertainment included a DJ and magician.
Cash was raised for the hospice through a charity auction and raffle.
Silvia, who runs the Krunchy Karrot greengrocers, in Wickford, said: “The night was absolutely brilliant.
It was very hard to plan and very stressful, but the whole event was amazing.
Everyone made such an effort.
“Megan and her friends came, plus my friends and some customers from my shop.
“Because of the success of this one, we are going to do another one next year. It was good to do something positive after what happened.”
Peter Hall, Little Havens community fundraiser, added: “I want to say thank you Silvia and all her friends and family and customers.”
