A POPULAR snooker club which was closed after part of the building it leases was sold off for housing is set to re-open tomorrow.

Riley’s in Leigh Road, Leigh, is launching with a new look on Wednesday following a refurbishment.

The bowling alley on the same site closed permanently without notice in the summer to make way for eight new houses to be built at the back of the building.

The future of the attraction was in doubt after it was put up for sale by its landlord in the summer, but Riley’s have since renewed their lease.

The site has been re-painted, decorated and is getting new flooring put in.

Angela Griffiths, manager of Southend Riley’s and Lee Dainty, manager of the South Benfleet branch, have been overseeing the plan.

Ms Griffiths said: “It’s been given a new look which I’m sure our customers will love.

“We’ve got four snooker tables, six English pool tables, darts boards, and much more.

“On Wednesday we’ll have our games machines on with a £500 jackpot. On Friday we’ll have a darts competition with cash prizes. On Saturday we’re having a disco, it will be great.”

The club will be open on one floor at first, with the upstairs due to open in the new year.

Work to build the houses is expected to start in the new year.
