A HAVE-A-GO hero was left with a broken arm after trying to stop a passenger being attacked at Leigh rail station The 39-year-old was walking past the station, in Belton Way, when he noticed the victim being beaten by two thugs.

The good Samaritan ended up being punched in the face and then chased, before later finding out he had broken his arm. Police nowwant to hear from people who may have seen the incidents.

Det Con David Bishop, of British Transport Police, said: “The victim was passing the station at around 8.55pm, when he noticed a man on the ground being assaulted by two men. He walked over to stop the attack, at which point the two men turned on him. One punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground.

“He managed to get up, but one of the men followed him and continued the attack. The victim made it to Belton Gardens, near the station, where eventually the assault ended.”

The man only found out he had broken his arm two days after the attack, which happened on Friday.

The attackers are white and aged about 18.

One is 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins, of average build, while the other is taller and a little slimmer.

Detectives are carrying out a number of enquiries, including viewing CCTV from the station and surrounding area, and speaking to witnesses. They are particularly keen to speak to the first man attacked by the pair outside the station, and who is yet to speak to police.
