X FACTOR fans Ella and Oliver Wishick were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the way the top talent show is made.

The Leigh brother and sister have both undergone kidney transplants. They got the chance to visit the studios, because of the show’s links with London’s Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, where they were treated.

Echo:

This weekend was the show’s big final, with Luke Friend, Sam Bailey and Nicholas McDonald going head to head for viewers’ votes.

However, dreadlock-haired teenager Luke Friend received the fewest votes from the public when the three finalists performed in front of 10,000 people at Wembley Arena on Saturday night.

Ella and Oliver, of Hurst Way, Leigh, jointed other patients to see the studios and visit the dressing rooms and make-up area.

The trip came about because cash from the 2013 X Factor winner’s single will go to Great Ormond Street.

Ella, 16, and Oliver, ten, were both born with kidney problems.

South Essex College student Ella lived with the condition until last year when her kidney function worsened.

Her mum Jo, 44, donated one of her kidneys to Ella, and in February the transplant was carried out.

Oliver, a pupil at Blenheim Primary School, received a kidney eight years ago, aged just two, with his dad Mark, 47, the donor.

Ella and Oliver, joined sister Rosie, 11, to meet contestants Nicholas and Luke and show host Dermot O’Leary.

Jo said: “They are both big X Factor fans so we were really excited to visit the studios and see the finalists and Rough Copy perform. We are big fans of Luke. Ella really fancies him, so got a few pictures with him.

“They spoke to Nicholas and Luke who were both lovely.

Dermot was very friendly and genuine and spotted Oliver’s West Ham scarf. He said they were his second favourite team.”

They even got the chance to sit in the iconic chairs of judges Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne.

The pair were also chosen for the visit because they won several medals at this summer’s Transplant Games.

Their mum said: “It was a really nice end to what has been a tough year, with Ella having her operation.”

Hospital chief executive Tim Johnson said: “The proceeds from the single will make a huge difference in helping Great Ormond Street Hospital to continue to provide the very best care for its young patients from across the UK.”
