A CRASH between a car and a van closed Main Road in Hockley for more than an hour this evening.
Fire crews from Hawkwell and Rayleigh Weir attended to free a man trapped in his car before he could be taken to hospital.
The smash took place near the junction with Bullwood Road, around 7pm.
A spokesman at Rayleigh Weir fire station said: “We had one person medically trapped in their car. We waited with him and spoke to him to reassure him and keep his heart rate down until the ambulance arrived then we got him out to safety.”
The driver of the van was not injured in the incident. The road was not expected to re-open until at least 9pm.
