A NEW gospel choir is being launched in Basildon.

Moorin Babalwale, 31, wants to set up the Basildon Community Gospel Choir to unite music lovers and help them forget their problems.

She has enlisted Basildon Council to help find a base for the group, which is open to anyone who enjoys singing or playing an instrument.

Mrs Babalwale, from Laindon, realised the power of music when she was suffering from postnatal depression following the birth of her son.

She said: “There is no audition or anything, it is just for people who want to sing or learn to play instruments.

“Singing is something I love to do and music really helped me when I was really depressed.

“I went through a really difficult time and going to a councillor was just refreshing my wounds.

“When I am singing I get to forget about everything, and music is one of the best ways of bringing people together.”

Anyone who is interested in joining the choir should e-mail Mrs Babalwale at basil doncommunitygospelchoir@gmail.com.
