Severe weather warning: Three storms to hit Essex within four days

THREE storms are expected to hit Essex within four days.

The Met Office has released three weather warnings for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, as heavy rain and gale force winds are expected to hit the county.

Weather experts are warning to people to be vigilant, keep track as the warnings are updated and beware there may be flooding.

Tom Defty, of Essex Weather Centre, said: “South Essex is always going to be worst off as it has seen the heaviest rainfall but we are asking people to be vigilant as there will be three significant weather events in three to four days, where one is enough.

“There could be 20 to 30mm in six hours.

“We probably haven’t seen the worst in Essex, compared to the rest of the country we have got off fairly lightly.

“For the whole of February it is going to continue like the last three months, there will be wind and rain and more misery, with no end in sight.

“The main issue will be flooding, secondary will be the trees and power cuts, but they will be localised.

“We have never been in this situation before where the ground is so saturated the trees come down quite easily.”

He estimated gusts could reach 60mph inland and up to 70mph in coastal areas.

and with the high spring tides as well we should see some more of those giant waves hitting the seafront like at the weekend where Chalkwell was hit worst, spectacular for the photographers of course.

-Looks like they fixed that but not: "Weather experts are warning to people to be vigilant"

One can only assume that the editor was somewhat "tired and emotional" by the time this was published at 21:00.

well it's a fair bit more than is normal for the time of year, but agreed, nothing to fuss about, and entirely preferable to snow...

It must be just me as I don't see "Essex" in that Met Office warning.

Nothing against chimps. I just wish the Echo would give them a few more bananas in the hope their output might improve.

Did you read about the children who robbed a woman with a Pitbull? I'd have thought the dog would have scared them off, until I re -read it a few times.

The photo on this story is so typical of many roundabouts around here. Whya re so many suffering from dangerous standing water? It is very poor that this has been allowed to deteriorate - Significant water stagnating on a roundabout is one of the most dangerous situation to have on the roads - especially for motorcyclists. Case in point - the Rayleigh Weir roundabout was always flooding after even a small volume of rain until recently. Yes, until recently - it is now clear. So it has been possible to rectify - why has it taken so many months of danger to life to do this - why?

Are they the cause of the weather then?

I know LastLaugh / Thisyear is full of hot air and wind, but I don't think even he contributes to the climate.

In fact, he doesn't contribute to anything. (IMHO of course)

Back to topic, where's this 'weather' then?

Did the Echo mean next week??
