SINGER Beth Orton has been revealed as the headline act for this year’s Village Green festival.

The singer-songwriter, who is known for her unique ‘folktronica’ sound, which mixes elements of folk and electronica, will perform the prestigious slot at the popular summer event held in Chalkwell Park.

She will join acts such as The Hosts, Dan le Sac v Scroobius Pip, Man like Me, Eddi Reader, Youth Club, Goldmaster Allstars, and the Philadelphia Boys Choir.

Beth has previously worked with The Chemical Brothers, William Orbit and Beck, and has won a variety of awards including Best Female Artist at the BRIT Awards.

Sean McLoughlin, of Arts group, Metal, who host the event, said: “We are very lucky to have such a world class act coming to Chalkwell Park. Beth will be doing a world tour this summer and to think that we will be part of that is a real buzz.

“This adds to a great line up which also features another BRIT award winning artist, Eddi Reader. So this year we are really proud to have two female artists headlining each of the main stages.”

Admission to this year’s Village Green festival, which will be held on Saturday, July 12, will not be free as it has been in previous years.

A total of 25,000 people will be allowed into the site for the event, which will run from 11am - 10pm.
