£3million for pot hole repairs across Essex

Echo: £3million for pot hole repairs across Essex £3million for pot hole repairs across Essex

ESSEX will be given more than £2.7million to repair its roads.

It is part of £16million set aside by the Department for Transport for the East of England, which is to be used to fix roads damaged by severe weather across the country following the wettest winter on record.

In total, Essex County Council will get £2,700,386, with Southend set for £273,418 and Thurrock £211,468.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: “Damage to roads causes misery for drivers and local communities and the severe weather over the last few months has made the problem worse.

“This extra money will help make a real difference to the millions of road users and residents across the east of England who rely on local roads, giving them safer and smoother journeys.”

The three councils already have a budget to maintain road, excluding major roads, such as the A12, which is maintained by the Highways Agency.

Each authority will have to publish information on how the money has been spent by the end of August 2014.

Separately, Chancellor George Osborne announced in Wednesday’s budget he would ring-fence £168million to tackle potholes on England’s roads.

Get small local firms to do the jobs, or employ a couple of blokes and buy them a van and let them do it. If you give the money to a big company then half of it will get swallowed up in admin and shareholders dividends.

What? Give two blokes in a Transit the money, in Basildon. Are you kidding?

That is absolutely spot on, and all because they were not repaired properly in the first place. On Canvey they just threw in Tarmac, then loose chippings and let the traffic roll them in. We had chippings inches deep in the gutters and loads finished up down the drains. ECC Highways are the worst in the country.

Totally agree. Perhaps if they did that, the roads would be to the level of most of the drain holes and they would be another hazard gone!!!!!. Our drains lay way below the level of most roads thus making them a pot hole of a sort.

Noticed today that they have re painted the white lines in Maldon Road, right thru the potholes ! So when they or rather if they fix them there will be nice gaps in the lines ! Or they will have to come back and do the lines again, same in Straight Road, the road is meant to be being re surfaced and yet once again they have re painted the centre line, total waste of both time and money but that's ECC for you !
