A SUPERSIZE Next store will finally open its doors inMay.

The retail giant, which sells clothes and homeware, is doubling the size of its store at Mayflower Retail Park in Gardeners Lane South, Basildon, just off the A127.

It will have a larger range of home furnishings, as well as kitchens, bathrooms and even a Starbucks coffee shop.

A spokesman from Next said: “We are relocating into the former Currys unit and increasing our floor space from 11,774sq ft to 27,067sq ft with a large home offering of 11,800sq ft and a Starbucks coffee shop.

“This store gives us the chance to increase space but more importantly the product ranges that we can offer.”

The plans were given the go ahead by Basildon Council’s planning committee in June, and work started in October.

Next is the latest in a string of big-name brands investing in sites on the retail park in recent months. The industrial estate has already seen the expansion of KFC, which was completed at the end of last year, the opening of a new Costa Coffee last month and a new 9,000sq ft Marks and Spencers in 2012.

It is thought the larger Next will create more than 50 extra jobs, boosting staff numbers from 84 to 135, although final numbers have to be confirmed.
