THE Weekend’s fine weather meant the water off Southend was busy, with the Thames Coastguard being called out twice on Sunday.
At 14.11pm the coastguard was alerted by Essex Ambulance Service to an injured male who fell from a vessel at Two Tree Island slipway.
Canvey Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked by the coastguard to assist the ambulance service, but before they had arrived the ambulance had departed the scene with the patient on board.
The man, in his thirties, was taken to Southend Hospital with an arm injury.
Earlier in the day the ‘Bonnie Girl’ yacht suffered engine failure off Leigh and was tended to by the Southend RNLI hovercraft at 11.44am.
Their crew went aboard and assessed the situation but the engine was not fixable and the stricken boat was towed to the Queenborough, on the south side of the estuary, by the Sheerness RNLI lifeboat.
The two passenger aboard ‘Bonnie Girl’ were assisted ashore safe and well.
