AN OFFICE partially collapsed on top of two security guards after it was hit by a car.

Two staff at the New Holland Tractor Plant in Cranes Farm Road, Basildon, were taken to Southend Hospital with head and leg injuries, after a man backed his car in to the hut where they were working.

A man has been charged with various driving offences including drink driving, following the incident at about midnight last Monday.

Emergency services were called to the plant in Cranes Farm Road, Basildon after reports a car had crashed in to the security office.

Officers searched the area and found a red VW in Cranes Lane.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of a number of driving offences, including drink driving.

Laura Overall, a spokesman from the tractor plant, said the hut, which is at the main entrance to the site has been knocked down after it was deemed unsafe.

She said: “We cannot comment on the injuries of the two staff members because that is confidential.

We are cooperating fully with Essex Police in their investigation.

- Oskar Liepnieks, 23, of Buckles Lane, South Ockendon, has been charged with drink driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and failing to stop after a road accident.

He was bailed to appear at Basildon Magistrates Court on July 8.
