NATIONAL Express train operator c2c is putting on almost 5,000 extra seats to help people see the Tour de France sweep through London on Monday, July 7.

A total of 17 trains will be doubled in capacity, from the standard length of four carriages to eight carriages, to provide additional seats.

Trains that will be lengthened include the first five off-peak trains of the day from Shoebury towards London, helping cycle fans who want to spend the day enjoying the race build-up.

The Tour de France route passes close to both Fenchurch Street and Limehouse stations, and extra c2c staff will be on duty at both stations to help customers. c2c passengers also able to change at West Ham for easy access to the official fan park at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

c2c Operations Director Kevin Frazer said: “We know from the Olympics and the Jubilee how popular one-off special events are with our passengers, and the Tour de France will be right up there.

"We’ve used our experience from handling these major events to plan for the arrival of the Tour, and that’s why we’re providing more extra capacity for everyone who wants to enjoy the day.”

c2c’s usual cycle policy applies on Monday, with only folded bikes allowed on trains during the morning and evening peaks to prioritise room for other passengers.
