Echo: Council centre evacuated Council centre evacuated

SOUTHEND'S main council building has been evacuated.

Scores of people piled out of Southend's Civic Centre in Victoria Avenue after they were told to leave the premises at about 2.15pm.

Southend Council said the cause of the evacuation was not yet known, but it was not an emergency situation.

They have now been allowed to return to the building

They (the Councillers) all did and also all lined up for third helpings at the daily free bunfight. Probably.

I understood, from the report in The Echo, that councillors only received free meals on the evening of a council meeting not every day. Have I got this wrong?

The ghost of the Tory party was freaking people out with self proclaiming moans and disturbing the petty cash tin. The staff had, had quite enough and decided to leave until a labour trade unionist was called in to recite excepts from a book on social ethics and basic common sense..

A friend of mine who works at the Civic Centre told me that people were evacuated as someone had mislaid the council's copy of the Communist Manifesto and Unite had called the Fire Brigade to find it.

fire practise, they do it every couple of years or so as do the other government buildings in Victoria Avenue to make sure all their evacuation plans work.

You would think the Council would have been informed by themselves then before it happened as according to them they didn't know the cause of the evacuation.
