HUNDREDS of litres of diesel have spilled onto the A13.

The Stanford-le-Hope bypass, between Stanford Road and Tilbury, is closed after the three vehicle accident, which caused the spill.

Two hundred litres of diesel have poured onto the carriageway.

Queues are also building on the opposite carriageway.

Drivers have been warned to avoid the area.

they need to get down there pronto, with a bucket of sand and some brooms, these continual road closures have to stop !

Sometimes just get out of Stanford in the morning is like trying to gain the holy grail. This morning, i tried going across country East Tilbury, Chadwell and then acroos to Grays. A 15 minute journey which took twice as long.

Good to see it's not been cleared up. Another 45 minutes of my life wasted today. Anybody using this road this morning, don't bother. Traffic queuing from five bells to orsett with 1 lane coned off.

Why does it take all night to clear a spillage? i was on the opposite side going home last night and the traffic was tailed back past the 5 bells (felt sorry for all those sitting in the jam) then this morning i was in the same traffic jam going out to work, what a nightmare!

that will be "for your safety" ..... in the long gone days of common sense, some sand would chucked down and people could get on with their lives....... now, the police will sit in a range rover, lights flashing for days on end, while consultants are drafted in and carry out risk assessments, to ensure that not even an insect will come to harm.......... prepare for more misery once it starts raining this weekend, the criteria for road closures these days seems to be any puddle that might get the bottom of your jeans wet, as was painfully illustrated on 'traffic cops' or whatever its called last week.........

I drove past this at about 7.30pm last night and there were queues and I can confirm sand has been spread over the road. I drove back this morning in Basildon direction and couldn't believe the length of the queues as the road was still coned off

I went past at about 22:45 last night towards Benfleet. Both sides had the middles lanes coned off as they were clearing the vegetation from the central reservation.
This morning I kept checking on BBC Essex Travel and Google maps and they said there was queing traffic back to the Five Bells. Google maps still showed the road was closed when I left for work at 13:25.
At the A128 junction the right hand lane was coned off, then the left so there was a chicane. There was just a long patch of thick sand soaking up the diesel. No work going on even though reports say the hold ups are for resurfacing. I am guessing this is going to be done overnight.
I suggest other routes are found until they have finished as you can't rely on the traffic reports!
Good luck fellow motorists. I suggest you take water with you.
