A BUNGLING burglar was spooked by a brave home owner.
The would-be thief was armed with a metal implement and was about to enter the property in Conway Avenue, Great Wakering when he was rumbled.
When the home owner challenged the man he claimed to be a police officer but then ran off.
Police have issued an efit of the man they think is responsible for the attempted burglary, which took place on Monday, July 7.
He is described as white, aged 20-30, average height, with short brown hair, slim build, bad skin complexion and wearing a pale blue polo shirt, denim shorts and white trainers.
Anyone who can help can call acting Det Supt Paul Gutteridge at Southend CID on 101.
