Look what was left in Westcliff alleyway

FLYTIPPERS dumped piles of rubbish, spanning the length of four houses, in an alleyway.

They were left in an alleyway between Hildaville Drive and Fairmead Avenue, Westcliff.

Members of the Residents’ Association of Westborough cleared up half the mess and Southend Council and waste firm Cory Environmental finished the job.

David Glover, secretary of the residents’ association, helped to fill 19 black rubbish bags and 24 recycling sacks.

He said: “A lot of the stuff has been dumped in the community garden and it stretched down the alleyway behind four houses. It’s one of the biggest alley clearances we have done.

“It makes you annoyed someone had the cheek to dump it, because Brenda Smith, the association’s chairman, has been beautifying the area for quite a few years.”

Mrs Smith said: “It was horrendous down there. It’s just laziness.

“There’s nothing to stop them from making trips to the tip. As it is, it is costing the council taxpayers.

“Our help was free, but Cory is going to charge the council for taking the stuff away.”

Commercial rubbish costs money to get rid of so fly tipping happens.
If this rubbish was behind 4 houses somebody would have seen or heard what was going on.

Someone must have been aware of all that stuff being dumped. Could it be that a small amount was originally dumped then some local residents thought it a good idea to add their own rubbish as no one would no better? Besides I thought Council Tax was supposed to be used to clean the streets!

The people of Basildon, particularly around Crays Hill and Noak Bridge, have put up with this sort of thing for years.

Particularly annoying for people who try their best to improve the environment at their own expense and in their own time.

Trouble is, the council do not enforce any deterrants for this sort of thing. Nobody at the council seems to actively chase down the flytippers. Any reports of fly tipped rubbish merely prompts the council into sending a truck to clear it up, playing right into the flytippers hands by making room again for even more fly tipped rubbish. There seems to be no efforts into prevention and investigation.
As the new cllr in charge of this sort of thing Cllr Terry needs to grow the balls his predecessor (the useless Tony Cox) failed to produce.

"Its just laziness"..... also - there was no mention of her getting off her backside and cleaning up the mess either, just David Glover (her secretary!)

Also..... what on earth is "Beautifying" - the place is a dump anyway

Finally..... this is not the sort of load that you could fit in a car boot, so did nobody hear it being unloaded and dumped!? Not much of a residents association if you ask me!

It is no surprise with the price of a skip these days. The council will not allow businesses to use the local tips. This will only get worse.

Alley dumping is common in all towns and it is not people driving across town to do it, it is stuff from residents who don't want to take it to the tip or pay for collection. Well done this pair for organising the cleanup, its the sort of community action lacking these days.

This has happened to me today finding a bath and 18 bags of rubbish tipped in my open car port. I hope they read this because I'm on their case - Churchfields, North Shoebury resident. Also a neighbour thinks they know who it is so WATCH OUT we will take action if caught doing this again
