THE Environment Agency said it would co-operate with Castle Point Council’s investigation into flooding.

Work has continued between Essex Highways, Anglian Water and the Environment Agency after the devastating floods on July 20.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said contractors were mapping out drains on the island and were creating a plan of areas most at risk of flooding.

This scheme will also measure how well the existing drains and sewers were coping.

He said: “The council is organising multi-agency meetings to discuss what action needs to be taken, which we are happy to attend.”

Anglian Water is using CCTV to inspect the pipes.

A spokesman added: “Alongside the highways authority we’re using CCTV cameras to inspect our pipes and are jetting them clear of any silt and debris which was washed in during the flood.

“Residents can also expect to see our contractors, Onsite, carrying out preparatory work.”

Essex Highways said as of August 29, its contractor cleared 5,133 gullies on Canvey since July 20.
