SOUTHEND Council is again trying to move rubbish bins from a car park, to make way for the entertainment complex.

The authority wants to move waste storage bins from the Seaway car park, in Lucy Road, as the area is earmarked for a major regeneration, including a multiplex cinema.

Councillors threw out proposals to move the ten bins close to Southend Pier earlier this summer after heavy objections.

Instead, the council is now looking to locate them on the site of a vacant toilet block in Darlows Green, in Eastern Esplanade, on the seafront.

There will only be minor work to the toilet buildings, which have been closed for many years.

Alan Richards, group manager for asset management at the council, said: “This application is made to facilitate the relocation of the existing litter collection facility in Lucy Road to an alternative location to ensure the seafront cleaning operators can continue efficiently to support future regeneration of the Seaways car park.”
