HELP your garden grow this week with free compost from Rochford District Council.

To mark Compost Awareness Week, the council is offering free compost to residents on Wednesday.

Residents can go to Pooles Lane Car Park, Hullbridge, at 10am with a sack to help themselves.

The compost will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so get there early.

Compost Awareness Week runs until Saturday and the council is also encouraging residents to start making their own compost.

Almost a third of household waste can be composted, including some uncooked kitchen scraps, teabags, crushed eggshells and small pieces of paper and cardboard.

A good mix of materials in a compost bin throughout a year will provide the finished article in nine to 12 months. The compost can be used to enrich plants, flower beds, hanging baskets and window boxes.

By liking and leaving a message on the Recycle for Essex Facebook page fb.com/ recycleforessex residents can also get free carrot or tomato seeds. For more information, contact the Recycle for Rochford team on 01702 318111.
