From Wembley to Southend seafront, Blues fans have had a lot to sing and shout about over the last few days.

Thousands of fans travelled to Wembley to support the Blues, and yesterday, the town matched the national stadium for atmosphere.

The sheer number of fans shows how important the team is to its community.

Everyone it seems has got behind the team and now rightly want to applaud the efforts of the players and management.

However, this is just the start.

Soon thoughts will turn to the future of Southend United and the opportunities that promotion may bring. It should prove more lucrative in League One with the club set to earn £1million in the higher division.

Club chairman Ron Martin has hinted in the past fewweeks that new stadium plans are in the offing.

How things change. Just a year ago the Blues missed out on promotion and there were concerns if a new stadium would ever be built and what might happen to the team’s current home at Roots Hall.

Now the future looks brighter and looks more about Southend United rather then the constant speculation about the Blues’ biggest backers, Sainsbury’s.

The result at Wembley and the volume of support for the team shows this club can achieve great things.

Lets hope this promotion does mark a change in fortunes for the Blues, bringing success the club and fans deserve.
