RUNNERS are invited to cross almost a kilometre of thick Thames Estuary mud to raise money for a hospice.

Havens Hospices new “Island to Island Mud Run” will take place in Leigh on Sunday, June 7.

Participants will attempt to run across the mudflats from Bell Wharf, in Old Leigh, to Two Tree Island, and back again, to raise money for the charity on Sunday, June 7.

Havens Hospices event fundraiser Jason Curtis said: “The Island to Island Mud Run is a fantastic way to support a great local charity.

“The full route is 900m and is for over 16 only as it is a real challenge to power through the mud, which is going to be really thick in places.

“We do have a smaller 400m route for families to take part in as well so there is something for everyone – it’s going to be great fun.”

The muddy fundraiser is usually held in Thorpe Bay, with runners heading out to the Mulberry Harbour.

The charity has moved the course to Leigh as it was felt the Thorpe Bay run was too challenging.
