A CYCLIST was left with serious injuries following a collision involving a car that failed to stop.

A car pulled into the cyclist’s path as he rode along Clifftown Road, Southend, at about 5.30pm on Thursday May 14.

The rider, who is in his 50s and lives locally, was forced into the kerb and was thrown from his bike. He suffered a broken right wrist, two fractures to his left elbow, a fractured left shoulder, two fractured ribs and three fractured vertebrae. He is still receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

Investigating officer, PC Nick Luff, said: "The cyclist was riding along Clifftown Road towards Scratton Road. As he approached the roundabout a vehicle pulled into his path. The vehicle then drove away, leaving the rider badly injured on the ground.

"The rider said he was wearing a cycle helmet and he believes it saved him from far more serious or even fatal injuries.

"We have no details about the vehicle but the road is quite busy at that time of evening so we hope some witnesses might come forward.”
