A murder suspect was watched by members of the victim's family as he appeared in court.
Jordan Taylor, 22, has been charged with murdering animal sanctuary worker Laura Davies in Pitsea on Friday.
In a brief appearance at Basildon Magistrates' Court this morning, Taylor, of Churchill Avenue, Basildon, confirmed his name, age and address.
Miss Davies, 21, was stabbed multiple times outside Essex Horse and Pony Protection Society, in Pitsea Hall Lane, at about 8.15pm on Friday.
Taylor appeared in court unshaven, wearing a red jumper, flanked by security guards.

Miss Davies' relatives watched the brief hearing from the public seating area inside the courtroom.
Taylor has been remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court tomorrow.
