WITNESSES to a road rage incident which saw a man attack his victim with a golf club are being urged to come forward.

Police have issued a new appeal for information about the incident in Tyefields, Pitsea, on Sunday, August 16.

The victim, a 65-year-old man from Pitsea, suffered “life changing” injuries and needed surgery as a result of the attack.

The incident took place at about 11.45am, when the victim’s silver Citroen C4 Picasso was involved in a near collision with a small silver car.

Both vehicles stopped and the victim and a male passenger in the other car exchanged words.

Dc Jo Phillips, of Basildon CID, said: "The younger man appeared very aggressive and got out of his car with a golf club.

"He struck the victim with it several times over the head.

"The victim put his hand up to protect himself and suffered a serious fracture to his hand, which resulted in a life changing injury that required surgery.”

The suspect is described as a white, aged between 20 and 25 and slim.

He was between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 10ins tall, had short, dark brown hair and wore a black top.

A 22-year-old woman from Basildon has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released on bail until September 21 pending further enquiries.
