YOUNG people in Southend will have the chance to develop their employability skills during a charity event this week.

Organised by Southend YMCA, and the Storehouse and Trinity Family Centre, the event will help young people work on skills to help them in the job market.

They will be able to receive advice and guidance on how to update their CVs, as well as getting tips from employers and agencies on how to tackle a job interview.

Jane Dolby, from Southend YMCA, said: “It is very easy for young people to become disheartened if perhaps they don’t have many formal qualifications or a degree, but that is still no guarantee of finding work.

“Other qualities like being reliable, motivated and co-operative can be more desirable sometimes to a prospective employer.”

Employers from Adventure Island, Utopia coffee shop and Reids employment agency, as well as others, will be on hand to give advice on how best to ensure you stand out from the pack.

To register your interest in the event in advance email janedolby@southend ymca.org.uk Alternatively, you can just turn up on the day.

The event runs from 10am to 2pm at the Trinity Methodist Church, Argyll Road, Westcliff, with the final session beginning at 1pm.
