THE £100,000 redevelopment of a prominent Leigh wharf has been delayed by a month.
Work began on Strand Wharf, in Old Leigh, in December last year and was due to be completed in mid-February.
However, a delay in delivery of paving blocks means the project is now not scheduled to be completed until the middle of March.
The development will see Strand Wharf repaved in stone, showing the outlines of former fishing cottages, with seating for open air classrooms and soft LED light to mimic moonlight.
The wharf has been dug up and concreted over, power cables laid and prepared for the new paving.
A green utilities box had been installed on the outside of the Heritage Centre before being removed and replaced with a new brick-built housing that matches the style of the centre, and also the new benches and planters on the wharf.
While the construction work is expected to be completed in mid- March, finishing touches may still be required. Leigh Town Council has set a provisional date of Saturday, May 7, for the official opening.
