DAMAGE to overhead wires is causing delays of up to an hour and cancellations on Greater Anglia trains today.
Electric wires between Wickford and Rayleigh have been damaged, meaning trains will be sharing the London bound track in both directions.
Greater Anglia say that disruption is expected until the end of the day, and have warned that Southend Victoria and London Liverpool Street trains running between the stations may be cancelled or delayed.
C2C stations are accepting tickets from Greater Anglia passengers on any reasonable route.
A statement on the Greater Anglia website says that engineers will be working to fix the damage but warned that delays are likely to remain until the end of the day.
It read: “Network Rail engineers will be making full repairs to the overhead wires after close of service tonight owing to the nature of the damage.
“Trains will continue running between Wickford and Hockley using the London bound track in both directions, but to alleviate the congestion caused by the reduced line capacity, a number of trains will be cancelled.”
