SELFISH flytippers have been dumping large piles of garden waste and tree branches on a roundabout on Canvey.

The piles of branches have been dumped on one of the roundabout in Roscommon Way.

Angry councillors have hit out at the people who are doing this.

Allan Taylor, Canvey Island Independent Party councillor, for Winter Gardens said the situation is just crazy. He added: “I was not aware of this flytipping but I went to investigate.

“It looked as if the tree branches were still quite fresh, which would suggest that the branches had not been there very long.

“These people are dumping rubbish wherever they can as it saves them money.

“The recycling centre at the Waterside Farm Roundabout on Canvey would charge people to dispose of waste such as trees and branches.”

Ray Howard, Conservative councillor for Canvey West, said he is disappointed to hear about the flytipping.

He added: “This sort of this is totally unacceptable.

“I will be speaking with officers at Castle Point Council to make sure that we do everything that we can to try and catch those responsible.”

Mr Howard added that there are CCTV cameras along Roscommon Way and he will asking the council to check the cameras for evidence of who dumped the piles of tree branches in the road.

John Anderson, Canvey Island Independent Party councillor for Canvey Central, said he doesn’t understand why people would dump waste there.

He added: “This is very close to the Waterside Farm Recycling Centre so it just doesn’t make sense to me why people would not be bothered to travel just that short distance to the recycling centre.

“I have not been aware of any issues like this around the Roscommon Way area in the past.”

Grace Watson, Canvey Island Independent Party councillor for Canvey Island North, branded the flytippers disgusting.

She added: “These people just think they can come along and just dump their rubbish where ever they like.”

A spokesman for Castle Point said the waste will be disposed of today.
