A BAND which shot to fame in the Seventies will take to the stage to raise money towards medical treatment for poorly twins.

Showaddywaddy, best know for hits such as Do Wah Diddy and Trocadero, will be performing at the Circus Tavern, in Purfleet, in March to raise money for Lennon and Layla Coady.

The pair were born 12 weeks early at Basildon Hospital to parents Zara Coady, 32, and Joel, 36.

The two-year-olds, from Benfleet, have been diagnosed with debilitating health problems.

Lennon has been diagnosed with spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy which causes constant pain in his legs and makes them so stiff he struggles to move.

Layla has a milder form of cerebral palsy, as well as a deletion in the 6P chromosome - a rare genetic disorder which is not linked to her premature birth.

The family are hopeful that Lennon will be able to walk if they can raise £30,000 for a specialist operation, which is not available on the NHS.

Tommy Brown, whose daughter is friends with the family, hopes the Showaddywaddy concert he has organised will raise up to £3,000 towards the fund.

He said: “I do a lot of charity shows every year for different people

“The venue gives us the venue for nothing so we can raise more for the good causes.

“These are just two little babies who need some help. They are our future so that’s why we want to help.

“It’s awful they are having to raise the money for the operation themselves so I thought we might be able to raise a bit of extra cash for them to help boost the fundraiser.”

The concert will take place on Saturday, March 4, at the Circus Tavern, in Meads Corner, Purfleet.

Tickets cost £20 each. Call 01708863838 or visit circustavernnightclub.com for more details.
