YOUNGSTERS had the chance to learn about an emergency service, which saves lives at sea.

Little ones from the 4th Rochford Cubs - the Omega Group - had an exciting day out to visit the RNLI station in Southend.

Luckily, there were no emergency calls whilst the youngsters were there and they got to find out more about this vital service.

The 17 very excited Cubs were accompanied by five parents, two leaders and two young leaders who were shown around the Lifeboat Station by the RNLI Volunteers on duty.

Lyn Smee, from the group said everyone had a good time and learned a lot.

She said: “The kids asked some very intelligent questions and were able to board a Lifeboat and a Hovercraft Lifeboat - not out at sea though.

“They loved trying on all the special clothing & life jackets and even two of the parents dressed up in all the gear.

“They were all very well behaved and are honoured to have been invited back to help out at the RNLI Open Day in June.”
