WOMEN across south Essex are being urged to remember their loved ones this Father’s Day by taking part in Race for Life in Basildon.

The annual fundraising 5km event will be held in Gloucester Park on Father’s Day, on Sunday, June 18, to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The event will be particularly poignant as women gather to race in memory of their loved ones.

Race for Life’s Essex event manager Gill Burgess, said: “Life-saving research is being funded right now thanks to the women of Basildon running, jogging or walking at Race for Life.

“Our participants play a crucial role in helping to turn discoveries made in the lab into better treatments for patients in Essex and across the UK.”

There will also be a 5km Pretty Muddy obstacle course held on Saturday, June 17, with ten different obstacles to conquer on the way around.

Gill added: “By taking part in Race for Life, women in Basildon can help raise funds for crucial research.

“Participants can choose to walk, jog or run around the course. Whether they’re planning a 5k amble with friends, a 10k run or a mud-splattered dash around the Pretty Muddy obstacle course, it’s not about being first over the finish line - it’s the taking part that counts.”

This Bank Holiday Monday women are being offered a special £5 discount on the adult entry fees for both the Race for Life and Pretty Muddy.

The reduced prices are for one day only, on Monday, using the discount code 5OFFMAY.
