A MAN staged a roof top stand-off in Southend before being taken away by police.
Dozens of police are at the scene in Hartington Road, Southend.
Police have confirmed it follows an earlier incident in which a woman was assaulted in the Kursaal area earlier today.
A spokesman said: "Police received a call shortly before 10.30am today, Wednesday, June 21, to an incident off Kursaal Way, Southend.
"Reports were received that a woman had been assaulted around 10.15am and the suspect had left the scene.
"Officers attended and located the man on a roof of a property in Hartington Road, Southend.
"He has since climbed on several roofs and is refusing to come down. Police have closed roads for the safety of the man and public and officers continue to engage with the man."
The man has come down off the roof at about 3.30pm.
It is unclear whether he has been arrested.
