WESTCLIFF High School for Boys has seen a record number of pupils succeed in a maths challenge.
Year 8 pupils recently sat the Junior Mathematics Challenge, which is a national competition run by the UK Mathematics Trust.
The school enters Year 8 pupils into the Junior Maths Challenge every year and always has successful pupils who are invited to participate in further rounds.
This year, however, they have seen a record number of pupils surpass the threshold for the subsequent round, the Junior Kangaroo.
A total of 16 boys scored more than 85 points, gaining them entry to the follow-on round. The Junior Kangaroo results are not yet published, but are eagerly anticipated.
Headmaster Mike Skelly said: “We are delighted to see such a significant increase in the number of our younger students excelling in mathematics following their success in a national competition.
“Many congratulations go to Nivasan, Shibha, James, Alfie, Bretton, Pranav, Justus, James, Owen, Jedidiah, Abel, Raeed, Viraj, Harry, Peter and Chinazo on their splendid achievement.”
