BASILDON’S army cadets shared their knowledge and experiences when they held an open day to the public.

The cadet detachment, based at the cadet centre, in Cherrydown, Basildon, opened their doors to let visitors see what kind of activities they get up to and what they have learnt.

There was an interactive workshop from the Corp of Drums allowing guests to try their hand at playing a drum.

In one of the classrooms, there was a first aid demonstration of how to dress and strap injuries.

People were also given the chance to practice CPR.

There was also a presentation on what to expect if you join the detachment with cadets sharing their experiences.

Outside the centre, there was a field cooking station to see what food cadets eat when staying outside and how it is cooked.

Basildon cadet Shania Holland, 15, said: “I would like to thank everyone for tonight and entertaining my whole family, all of them really enjoyed it”.
