A MAN was stabbed in the neck during a late-night fight at a home in Southend.

Emergency response officers were called to Devereux Road at about 11.10pm on Wednesday to reports that an altercation had taken place.

When they arrived at the scene, they discovered that a man had an injury to his neck.

Paramedics treated him and took him to hospital. His injuries have not been described as life-threatening or life-changing.

A 52-year-old man from Southend was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

He remains in custody at the time of going to press.

Police have not identified how old the victim is.

Police have arrested a man after stabbing his victim in the neck during a fight.

Residents shared their concerns about how safe the area is. Caroline Harvey posted on Facebook: “I heard about this. My friends live in that road in complete terror, there are police there all the time.”

Another resident, Matt Rumsby, said: “What the hell is wrong with people. This town is slowly turning into a dumping ground for scumbags.”

This stabbing incident comes a matter of days after a major attack in Southend that shocked residents.

In early September, five men were arrested after a man, in his early twenties, was attacked in the Seaway car park near Talk nightclub in Lucy Road.

The man suffered wounds on his torso and he was taken to hospital.

Mark Flewitt, councillor for housing, planning and sustainability, said: “It’s unacceptable, we’ve got to punish any perpetrators to reinforce our stance against knife crime.

“Once caught and proved guilty, perpetrators need to be punished harshly and severely.

“It gives the town a terrible reputation, its an appalling act at a time we are asking people to visit and do business in the town.”

A knife amnesty bin is currently situated outside Southend police station, in Victoria Avenue.

It was installed by anti-knife crime charity Only Cowards Carry in July last year.
