Plans to re-develop the Linford Civic Amenities Centre have been announced, with improved access and an elevated level for people to get up the steps with heavy items.

Councillor Aaron Watkins presented the plans in a Cabinet meeting yesterday evening, which show numerous new aspects that he believes will improve use of the site.

One new aspect will be a ramp arching around the waste containers which can be accessed by vehicles.

The purpose of this ramps is to allow people who are unable to lift heavy items, such as mattresses and old televisions, up the stairs next to the containers.

Another feature will be a dedicated a dedicated right turn lane to reduce the queuing traffic on Buckingham Hill Road who are waiting to turn right into the site.

In addition to these will be further recycling containers and a dedicated facility for commercial waste disposal.

The report asserts that all this can be done without needing the expand the size of the premises.

During the Cabinet meeting, Councillor Watkins said: “There are many areas where we want to make changes to the site.

“We need to upgrade it and turn it into a 21st Century site.”

Also pleased with the new ramp access was Councillor Little, who said: “I think it’s a brilliant idea to have it all on one level; can you imagine me trying to get up those steps with heavy items?”

The motion was passed unanimously.

motion to enforce permits for van users and motorists towing trailers was also passed in the same meeting.
