BOMB disposal experts are on their way to Chalkwell Beach following the discovery of what could be WWII ammunition.
At about 10am today, people digging for bait near the low water mark discovered three shells.
Officials at the Walton on the Naze coastguard described them as "two six inch long and two inch wide shells and another nine inches long and four and a half inches wide".
The larger piece is thought to be an artillery shell and the two smaller could be anti-aircraft ordnance.
The Coastguard has summoned the Royal Navy's bomb disposal experts from Portsmouth.
They are expected to deal with the shells at low tide at about 10am tomorrow (Wednesday).
