MP BOB Spink has thrown his support behind a charity which helps care for children with life threatening illnesses.

The Castle Point MP was invited to hear about the work of the charity React by fellow MP Susan Kramer and was won over to the cause.

Dr Spink said: “It is essential children born with serious illnesses are given support.

“I have long campaigned for children’s hospices. I encourage everyone to become involved in this worthy cause.”

Last year the charity responded to requests from 1,232 families caring for terminally-ill children, including many in Essex.

Working with medical and social care professionals, the charity provides any specialist, domestic or educational equipment which is considered to be a basic need, such as specialist wheelchairs, beds, baths or everyday items like washing machines and tumble dryers.

Vicky Andreas, director of client services at React, said: “We’re delighted to have Bob Spink’s support in our quest to improve the lives of terminally-ill children.

“Families caring for children living with a serious illness are often not given the necessary assistance they require and community support is vital in helping us to change this.”
