BASILDON MP Angela Smith found out how Coryton power station is helping youngsters understand the importance of green engineering.
The Labour politician donned a hard hat and high-visibility jacket when she visited the gas-fired power station.
During her visit, Mrs Smith met two apprentice engineers on the Coryton Apprenticeship Scheme, who are in their third year working at the plant, in The Manorway, Stanford-le-Hope.
She was also told about the plant’s educational programme. Eight schools in Basildon and Thurrock have taked part in green-themed ‘electricity workshops’ over the past year Andy Taylor, spokesman for Intergen, which owns the plant, said: “We were delighted to welcome Angela Smith to our Coryton site.
“Our plants are among the cleanest and greenest in the UK and we hope she learnt more about our work and our commitment to the local community.”
